Can anyone learn to Heal?

In this weeks blog I wish to discuss the questions can anyone learn to heal? Are some people more predisposed to be effective as healers than others and if so what can us lesser mortals do to improve our practice?

Over the years I’ve met some incredible healers and when it came to transmitting energy they seemed able to manifest huge amounts of Ki. Also their ability to perceive what was required and transmute energy went beyond the average Reiki practitioner. So in today’s blog I wish to discuss why that might be and how some people seem able to hold a healing space and channel energy more abundantly than others. Continue reading

Distant Healing

This week I am writing about Distant Healing. I use the practice of distant healing every day in many different ways and It’s effectiveness never fails to amaze me.

Distant Healing is the name we give to the process of sending Reiki outside of time and space. This could be to someone or something that is in a distant location from us or in a different time to us either in the past or future. We use a specific symbol sequence which enables us to do this grouped around the Distant Healing Symbol. Continue reading

Byosen Reikan Ho (Scanning)

This is the second in my series of Blogs on  preparing yourself for a Reiki treatment. This week I am giving some useful tips on how to develop mindfulness and utilise Gassho Meiso (Meditation) so that we know what we are feeling within ourselves and how this benefits us when doing Byosen Reikan Ho.

Byosen Reikan Ho is a technique which refers to scanning someone else’s energy field to perceive areas of disharmony or disease. Whenever there is a disease in a person there will always be sensations in their energy field referred to in Japanese as hibiki meaning resonance. The premise being that if something exists on the physical level it will also exist on subtler levels either as an emotion in the emotional body, an idea or thought in the mental body or an energy signature in the etheric body.  Continue reading

The Power of The Reiki Symbols

I recently returned from a retreat in Glastonbury where I had deliberately asked spirit to arrange a change in the weather as the prediction wasn’t going to serve me and my group at all. The resulting sunshine created an interesting discussion around the breakfast table of the power of the Reiki symbols to support clear intention. One of the group told me I should blog about the experience I had in Hawaii with the Reiki power symbol that I opened my book Reiki and the Seven Chakras with. Further bellow is the extract from the book. Continue reading

New Beginnings

With this weeks equinox and new moon the emphasis is on new beginnings and I want to share an exercise I do with many of my clients to help you clarify what you want. It’s often the case that we can reel off for hours and hours all the things in life we don’t want, but when someone asks us what we do want, it becomes really difficult to answer the question.

I spend a lot of time with clients clarifying what they want because unless we actually know where we are heading, we cannot hope to achieve our desired outcomes. It is important not only in terms of goals we set for ourselves in the material sense but also the goals we set for our personal development and inner peace and balance. Continue reading

A Tale of Trust

I have decided to share a tale of trusting the universe to provide. It was 16 years ago, I didn’t have a care in the world and was travelling through Israel and Egypt…. It goes something like this..

It was hot. The driver on the coach had warned me not to walk, but I had slept through my stop and the only way back was on foot. The Dead Sea in July reaches 50’c and with only a few sips of water left, I was starting to realize the driver was right. The road snaked ahead of me with nothing but rock and salt either side. I laughed out loud. It seemed ages ago now, but it was only this morning I had decided to miss my flight home and head south from Jerusalem. I wanted to take in the Dead Sea and then head down to Elat, cross the border into the Sinai and then on down into Nuweba. The Ego

Following on from my recent blog on Reiki and Protection, I would like to discuss The Ego development and how it contributes to our notion of a Polarised Universe.

I love the Chakra system as an illustration of the journey we make into conscious awareness. Starting with our conception we begin the process of building ourselves in shape and form as millions of years of intelligent evolution programmed in our DNA sets to work at an incredible rate. If all goes well, by the time of our birth in a little under ten months we have all our fingers and toes and are thrust into the world with little more than a very loud cry to get what we need. From these precarious beginnings we begin to build the foundations on which we will develop to varying degrees our sense of self. This early development is designed to seat consciousness in the physical body. Fusing with the material dimension, we begin to differentiate between physical sensations in the body and those in the environment. A baby bites a blanket and it doesn’t hurt whereas it bites it’s own thumb and it does. So the baby begins to identify itself as separate from it’s environment like a secondary birth. The first being that from it’s Mother, the second from the World itself. Continue reading

Reiki and Protection

“It is better to light one small candle than curse the darkness” Confucius

Will I be protected when I give Reiki?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions in my Reiki classes and in this weeks blog I will explain my own philosophy on the subject and the wider implications of holding onto the need for protection .

A quick search on google reveals opposing views on the subject. One camp firmly believing in the need for some additional measures to be taken in order to feel protected from outside energies and there are many inventive methods listed that claim to offer this. “Aura Shields, Reiki Bubbles, Earth Bound Spirit Flush”..Are just a small sample of what I have found. The psychosomatic nature of illness

Today I was given a great example of the body mind connection when I took my 11 year old daughter to have the cast she had been wearing for a fractured wrist removed. To give you some background to this injury, my daughter is an incredible dancer and gymnast (I know I am a doting father but trust me she really is). For the last 12 months she has been practicing for a show with a series of solo performances at the Lighthouse in Poole which is in a little over ten days time. The fracture was obviously a disaster to her and today was D day for her and the dance school, in terms of what she would be able to salvage.  The nurse very efficiently informed her she would cut off the plaster cast she has had on and the doctor would examine it and send her if needed for another X Ray. The moment the plaster came off, my daughter burst into tears and as I hugged her she said Dad it really hurts. I quickly sat her down and asked her to hold my hand whilst I provided support to her wrist with my other hand. I allowed Reiki to flow and then calmly said to her, “Your arm has got used to being supported and we just need it to know it’s going to be ok without the cast”. Feeling reassured (supported) she calmed down a little and while we waited for the doctor I just let energy flow into her arm.  Continue reading

Reiki and The Seven Chakras

Before you all jump to the conclusion that this is an unashamed attempt at promoting my own book title, I would like to explain…

James deacon who I might add I am a great fan of has highlighted the fact that many New Age Reiki practices include the chakras as part of their training and questions their validity. Dr Usui appeared not to include Chakra theory in his practice and the Ryoho Shishin suposedly his original treatment guide does not mention them. However it must be said that the Ryoho Shishin is little more than a list of ailments and area’s of the body that should be treated and was intended as a resource for new students who were unable to  scan or sense the area of need in a patient through practices like Byosen Reikan Ho. Continue reading
